Keep your Weight Low in Winter

January 18, 2010 | Tags: Health, Healthy Eating, Low Fat
Keep your weight low this winterWith the indulgent festive season behind us and the winter season well and truly upon us, many of us might be experiencing post-holiday weight worries. With the colder weather comes less opportunity to exercise outside and more opportunity to eat foods which can lead to increased weight gain.

Try these tips if you want to keep the weight at bay:
  • Drink more water – it is common to mistake hunger for what is actually thirst. In winter we tend to drink less but it is important to keep your water intake up during the colder months with at least 6-8 glasses a day.
  • Swap hot chips for healthy soups – homemade vegetable soups will not only contribute to your 5 A DAY but will keep you warm in winter without the weight.  And if you just can't give up the hot chips then try this truly tasty low fat alternative.
  • Make time for indoor exercise – draw up a schedule for the week that includes using workout DVDs at home. If you have stairs in the house – make use of them!
  • Start with a warm, healthy breakfast – a bowl of porridge is the best way to start to the day in winter as it will provide you with fibre and enough energy to keep you going all morning and will stop you from snacking on unhealthy foods before lunch.

My best way to loose weight after Christmas is to eat homemade soup every day for lunch or dinner and exercise at least twice a week. I also snack on fresh or dried fruit and have no alcohol during the week. I reward myself with clothes, shoes or beauty products when I have been good all week.
