About mySupermarket
What is mySupermarket?
www.mySupermarket.co.uk is a new shopping and comparison website for UK supermarket shoppers.
Our aim is to help shoppers get the best possible price and healthiest options for their supermarket trolley while enjoying an easier and more consumer-friendly shopping experience.
mySupermarket is an impartial service based on continuously updated information. None of the supermarkets or product manufacturers own a stake in the company.
Who owns mySupermarket?
mySupermarket Limited is a private company.
It is owned by a group of venture capital investors and mySupermarket employees - a team of commercial and creative professionals, dedicated to
using internet technology to make online shopping a more enjoyable, or at least more bearable, experience.
The website is an impartial service. None of the supermarkets or product manufacturers own a stake in the company.
How do I use mySupermarket?
From mySupermarket website, choose to shop from any of the leading online supermarkets - Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado - and you'll see products from that supermarket organised on image-based shelves.
While you shop, you can check the price of your trolley in all four supermarkets at the top of your screen.
You can also keep an eye on how much you can save within your chosen supermarket by swapping some of your
products. This gives you a sneak preview of the Trolley Checker page.
When you finish shopping, click the Checkout button to view mySupermarket's suggested swaps in the Price Checker and Health Checker. You can also compare the cost of your trolley in all four supermarkets and switch to one of the other online supermarkets.
Then, simply click 'Send' from your chosen supermarket. mySupermarket instantly sends your trolley to the online supermarket.
And leads you to the checkout page of the website of your online supermarket. All you need to do is sign in and pay for your trolley.
Is mySupermarket a supermarket?
No. mySupermarket is not a supermarket.
mySupermarket is a shopping and comparison website for supermarket shoppers.
We're giving you a consumer friendly alternative to shopping directly from the websites of Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado.
But unlike the supermarkets, mySupermarket is totally impartial towards which products or supermarket you choose.
By using mySupermarket, it will be easier for you to find the items you want. And with our 'Trolley Checker' feature you'll be able to get your trolley for less money or fewer calories.
And when you've decided what you want, we'll send your trolley to your chosen supermarket where you can checkout in the usual way.
Who delivers my shopping?
The supermarket you send your trolley to checkout from will deliver your shopping.
You can book delivery through mySupermarket from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's or Ocado, but you get your shopping and the delivery directly from the
online supermarket itself.
You can book a delivery slot with mySupermarket either before you start shopping or at any time before you send your trolley to the online supermarket of
your choice. See .
Do I have to pay to use mySupermarket?
No, mySupermarket is completely free. All you have to do is choose a shop and enter your postcode to start filling your trolley. To send your final trolley to your chosen supermarket, you have to register, but you don't have to pay.
Why use mySupermarket?
Why use mySupermarket?
It's a consumer friendly alternative to using the supermarkets' own websites.
You still select items, buy them and get delivery from your usual supermarket - but you have much more control over the
contents and price of your trolley.
Your shopping experience will be easier and your wallet better off:
- Find what you want with a consumer friendly image-based shelf display
- Watch your potential savings increase while you shop
- Keep an eye on how much your trolley costs in the other supermarkets
- Switch your entire trolley seamlessly to any other supermarket, or
- Don't switch: stay in your usual supermarket and use the 'Price Checker' feature to check whether you can swap some of your items for others on special offer or better value.
- You can also use the 'Health Checker' feature to check whether you can swap some of your items for similar products with fewer calories, or lower salt, sugar, fat or saturated fat.
- Find all the offers and deals in one place in the Top Offers Department.
- Collect ipoints with each product in addition to your usual loyalty points from your supermarket.
How can I earn loyalty points while shopping in mySupermarket?
When you use mySupermarket, you are still in fact shopping from your usual online supermarket. You're just using a different website to select items
for your trolley. You therefore continue to earn loyalty points in the same way as if you shopped directly from the supermarket.
What are ipoints and how do I collect them?
ipoints are valuable internet rewards that can be collected when shopping online on mySupermarket and other online retailers.
You earn 1 ipoint for every £1 you spend at mySupermarket.
- Regular ipoints - You earn 1 ipoint for every £1 you spend at mySupermarket.
- Bonus ipoints - In addition, you can earn bonus ipoints when buying specific products.
You'll find all of these exclusive offers on the Bonus ipoints Shelf in the Top
Offers Dept.
To collect your ipoints you first need to register (or sign-in if you're an existing ipoints customer), after that, your ipoints will be automatically added to your account every time you complete a shop at mySupermarket.
Once you've received your ipoints (they are processed at least one week after the order is completed), you can redeem them at
for a wide variety of gifts and services.
Oh, and don't worry, you'll still continue to earn your Tesco Clubcard or Sainsbury's Nectar Card points, as well!
What if I don't want to buy my groceries online?
If you prefer to go shopping in person, you can Print a Shopping List on mySupermarket. Use mySupermarket to do some quick
research on your regular trolley before you go and buy it at your local supermarket. Then use our convenient
Print a Shopping List feature to ensure you take advantage of all the savings and healthier choices you made on mySupermarket.
If you use mySupermarket for offline shopping you can:
- Compare the cost of individual items in all supermarkets
- Compare the cost of your entire trolley in all supermarkets
- Use the Price Checker to find special deals and the Health Checker to find healthier alternatives in your supermarket. We'll make sure you don't miss anything. No need to look for special deals - they find you!
- Print a Shopping List and go shopping in your local store.
Getting started
How do I start shopping with mySupermarket?
It's easy. Choose a supermarket, and you can immediately start shopping.
It's advisable to enter your postcode so that we only show you products that are available
in your local store.
If you've shopped with us before, you can shop from your mySupermarket Favourites
(see ), or
start shopping from your most recent trolley. See
()
If you usually shop online, you can import your stored favourites from any of the online supermarkets, and start shopping
from your Favourites. (See .)
You can book your delivery slot from any of the online supermarkets before you start shopping. (See ).
Why do I need to choose a supermarket to get started?
Because mySupermarket needs to know which supermarket you want to shop from.
Once you choose a supermarket, we'll show you products from that supermarket but displayed using mySupermarket's consumer friendly
image-based shelves.
For example, if you choose Tesco, you see the products from Tesco online.
Why do you need to know my postcode?
In order to add products to your trolley, we need to know if they are available in your local store.
Once you've entered your postcode, we update the whole site to only show you products that are available
in your local area.
Can I start shopping from my last trolley?
With mySupermarket you can start shopping from your last trolley, rather than filling up your trolley from scratch.
Your last trolley is the last trolley you sent to one of the online supermarkets.
To start shopping from your most recent trolley, see .
What if there are missing items when I start shopping from my last trolley?
If you start shopping from your last trolley, you may find that some items are crossed out when you look at the
View Trolley page. This is because those items are currently out of stock.
mySupermarket automatically replaces any missing items with very similar products, just as if
you were switching supermarkets. You can review the items we've placed in your trolley by clicking Review Equivalents
in the Trolley Checker page. We also show you a number of alternative products which you can select instead of the item we've
automatically placed in your trolley.
Do I need to register to start shopping with mySupermarket?
No. You can start shopping and use many of the features of mySupermarket without registering.
You'll need to register before you send your trolley and complete your order. Registration is free.
Do I need an existing account at one of the online supermarkets to start shopping with mySupermarket?
No. You can select your trolley at mySupermarket even if you've never used an online supermarket before.
But, before you send your trolley to one of the supermarkets – Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado – you'll need to create an account with the supermarket you chose.
Before you send your trolley, we'll open the website of the supermarket you are checking out from so that you can register with them.
How do I book a delivery slot?
You can book a delivery slot through mySupermarket, with any of the online supermarkets before you start shopping or at any time while you shop.
You can even choose which supermarket to shop with according to which supermarket has a convenient delivery slot for you. See
Booking a Delivery slot
Note: You can book delivery through mySupermarket from Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado, but you get your shopping and the delivery directly from the online supermarket itself.
Can I change my delivery slot while I'm shopping?
You can amend your delivery slot any time before you send your trolley to the online supermarket. All you need to do is click on the date and time of your delivery, shown at
the bottom of the screen, and we'll show you all the available delivery slots for your area. Clicking on a different slot automatically cancels the original slot and
reserves the new slot.
Each of the online supermarkets reserves your delivery slot for a different length of time. 15 minutes before your reservation expires, we'll show your reserved
delivery slot in red. You can either send your trolley to the online supermarket and pay for your order, or click on the reservation to book a new slot.
If you want to amend your delivery slot after you've sent your trolley to the online supermarket, you need to open the supermarket's website and amend there.
Can I use my favourites from my usual supermarket when shopping with mySupermarket?
Yes. If you already shop online from Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado, you can import your favourites into mySupermarket to make shopping at
mySupermarket even quicker and easier. See 'To import favourites'.
Then simply shop from your mySupermarket Favourites in the same way as you shop from any of the shelves in mySupermarket.
Shopping (from your supermarket) using mySupermarket

- You can browse the departments and shelves. Click one of the department icons across the top then click on the shelf name below.

- You can use your Favourites (the first department from the left). See Can I use Favourites with mySupermarket?

Can I use Favourites with mySupermarket?
There are two ways to use favourites with mySupermarket:
- Your 'favourites' list from your usual supermarket.
You can 'Import your favourites' from any of the online supermarkets and store them together in one convenient list in mySupermarket.
More details
- Favourites created in mySupermarket.
Every time you send a trolley from mySupermarket, everything in your trolley will be saved in your Favourites.
Are product prices and special offers up-to-date?
We update prices and special offers continuously and at least once a day.
How do I view my trolley?
You can view the items in your trolley at any time by clicking on View Trolley icon found at the top of the screen (next to the mySupermarket logo).
How do I find more information about a product?
Simply, click on the product image and a pop up page will appear containing a larger image of the item and item details. This product details page includes a price comparison chart, ingredients, the traffic lights, and full nutritional information. Allergies information is coming soon.
How do I find special offers?
You can find them in four places:
- The Top Offers Department - contains all the best offers for your supermarket, organised by shopping department.
It also has a Bonus ipoints shelf that covers all our exclusive ipoints deals available.
- Every department has a shelf that contains all the offers found in that department.
- Your favourites now contain an "Offers for You" shelf. These are carefully selected
from the thousands of special offers, based on your favourite products.
- Within your favourites and the regular shelves - The prices of items with special
offers are marked in red. For these items, the usual price is still displayed in
grey and will be crossed out.
What is Price Per Unit?
Price Per Unit (PPU) shows the price of the product per 100g or per individual unit (for multipacks). It is always displayed under the price
of the item. The PPU allows you to compare prices of products which are different sizes. For example, if you are choosing between a 250g jar
of coffee and a 220g jar of coffee: the PPU tells how much they each cost per 100g.
What is the Checkout button?
The Trolley Checker button takes you to the page where you can save £££s and calories before you send your trolley to the supermarket of your choice. You can click it when you have finished shopping.
This page provides you with opportunities to improve your trolley cost with our savings suggestions. There are three
ways to save:
- Health Checker – view our suggestions for healthier swaps for the items in your trolley.
- Price Checker - view our suggestions for money-saving swaps for the items in your trolley.
- Switch supermarket - if you get better value on your trolley (especially if items are identical in the two trolleys you are comparing).
How do I Checkout?
When you have finished shopping, click the Checkout button.
In the 'Trolley Checker' page you will be able to use the Price Checker and Health Checker, as well as switch supermarket.
Once you've reviewed our suggestions for better value or healthier options, click the 'Send' button to send your trolley to the supermarket of your choice.
Your trolley will be sent to the online supermarket where you will be able to review your final order, confirm your delivery slot
and provide payment details. Learn More...
How to SAVE with mySupermarket's 'Trolley Checker'?
How do I use mySupermarket to reduce the cost of my trolley?
When you have finished shopping, click 'Checkout. In the Trolley Checker page you have two ways of reducing the cost of your trolley:
- 'Price Checker' - The system will automatically review your trolley and show you alternative products that are of the same quality but of lower price. Learn more...
- Switch Supermarket - If another supermarket offers a better price for your trolley, you can immediately transfer the entire contents
of your trolley for checkout with that supermarket. Learn more...
Can I compare product prices across all four supermarkets?
Yes. Simply click on the product image and a pop up page will appear which includes a price comparison chart showing the product price
across all supermarkets that sell this product.
Can I compare my trolley price across different supermarkets?
At the top right of each page you can see our trolley comparison chart. It shows you how much your trolley costs at each of the four major supermarkets. You can also see a more detailed comparison if you click the 'Checkout' button.
What is included in the total cost of my trolley?
The total cost of your trolley includes all the items in your trolley. Your delivery charge is shown below the total if you booked your delivery slot
through mySupermarket.
Your mySupermarket total takes into account only special offers which are valid on the date of your delivery. For example if a special offer expires on
12 August and your delivery date is 10 August, the special offer price will be included in your trolley. You can check the expiration date of a special
offer by opening the product page (click on an item to open the product page).
The trolley cost for 'alternative' supermarkets is calculated to make it easy for you to compare the cost of your trolley across
supermarkets. For items where there isn't an identical match in the 'alternative' supermarket, here's what we do:
- If we can find an Equivalent product for the missing item - we use the Equivalent's price.
- If we can't find an Equivalent for the missing item - we use the price of the original item (until you specify an Equivalent or
remove the item).
Note: If you want to switch supermarkets, you can review the Equivalents we chose for you and select alternative items.
If we can't find an Equivalent for a certain item, the cost of that item will be deducted when you Checkout.
How do you compare trolleys across supermarkets - some products are not available in all supermarkets?
While you shop in one supermarket, in the background, mySupermarket 'shops' for a comparable trolley at each of the other
supermarkets. If it can't find the product you bought in the other supermarkets it will automatically use the nearest Equivalent
item stocked by that supermarket (you can review and change them later). If it can't find an Equivalent, it
will use the price of the original product you selected and when you get to the 'Trolley Checker' stage, you can select an Equivalent yourself.
In some cases, the comparison isn't perfect since trolleys from different supermarkets are close but not identical. But it does give you a
good indication of the real difference in the price of your trolley between supermarkets. And for those of you who are interested in exploring
this further, you can do a more detailed comparison in the 'Trolley Checker' stage.
How do I use mySupermarket's 'Price Checker'?
One of the central parts of the 'Trolley Checker' page is the 'Price Checker'. Clicking on the 'Save' button opens the 'Price Checker' page. Within the page you will see items that you bought in the left column and suggested alternatives to the right.
- Click on the Price Checker to view the alternative items which we suggest to save money on your shopping. The total potential savings are highlighted in red. The items which you originally chose are listed on the left highlighted in yellow. Our Price Checker alternatives appear to the right.
- Click 'Swap' to select an item. A tick will appear with a message You Saved: £X.XX. If you change your mind, click on 'Cancel Swap' to undo and return to your original item.
Click the 'Return to Trolley Checker' button to return to Trolley Checker.
How do I use mySupermarket's 'Health Checker'?
The second part of the 'Trolley Checker' page is the 'Health Checker'. Clicking on the 'Save' button opens the 'Health Checker' page. Within the page, you will see items that you bought in the left column and suggested alternatives to the right.
- Click on the Health Checker to view the alternative items which are in some way healthier than those originally selected. The total potential calorie savings are highlighted in red. Savings on fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar are listed to the right of the total calorie savings. The items which you originally chose are listed on the left highlighted in yellow. Our Health Checker alternatives appear to the right.
- Click 'Swap' to select an item. A tick will appear with a message listing all the savings you made on that swap. If you change your mind, click on 'Cancel Swap' to undo and return to your original item.
What price savings will we offer you?
Our Price Checker tries to save you money every time you shop with mySupermarket. We uncover several types of saving you might have missed, including:
- Special offers, such as 3 items for the price of 2. For example if you chose 2 frozen pizzas on a '3 for 2' offer, we
would suggest you add another pizza to your trolley.
- Products of the same quality but a lower price than the item you chose. For example if you chose tinned vegetables we
might suggest you buy an alternative brand for a lower price. Of course we only offer you items of the same quality!
- Special offers on better quality items. For example if you chose bottled mineral water but a more expensive brand was
on a special offer, we would suggest you buy the other brand.
- Products which are larger than the item you chose but which save you money in the long run. For example if you chose
a 500ml bottle of olive oil we might offer you a 750ml bottle of the same product, which is cheaper per 100ml. Note that
in this case, your trolley price will be higher, but you will save money in the long run.
Why do some of the 'Price Checker' alternatives cost more?
One of the ways you can save is by buying a larger quantity which although it might cost more may have a lower price per
unit. For example if you buy 1kg of cornflakes instead of 500g you pay more but your price per 100g of corn flakes will be reduced.
Is delivery included in the trolley cost?
Delivery is not included in the trolley total. If you booked your delivery slot through mySupermarket, the delivery charge is shown below your trolley total on the Trolley Checker page. See Booking a Delivery Slot
What happens when I click the 'Send' button?
When you click the 'Send' button we send your order to the online supermarket you chose to checkout from. All you have to do is sign in, review your trolley and enter your payment details. If you haven't booked a delivery slot with mySupermarket you'll need to book your delivery after you send your trolley.
Can I print a Shopping List?
If you prefer to shop offline, you can use the mySupermarket website to compare the cost of your entire trolley in all
four supermarkets, before you go and buy it at your local supermarket. You can use our convenient Print a Shopping List
feature to ensure you take advantage of all the savings you made on mySupermarket. See Printing a Shopping List.
Switching supermarkets before checkout
Can I switch supermarkets without starting again?
Yes. While you shop in one supermarket, in the background, mySupermarket 'shops' for a comparable trolley at each of the other
supermarkets. If it can't find the product you bought in the other supermarkets it will automatically use the nearest Equivalent
item stocked by that supermarket. If you decide to switch supermarkets before checkout you will need to review these Equivalents
items and decide whether to keep them, change them or remove them.
What are Equivalents?
While you shop in one supermarket we shop for you in all the other supermarkets. If we can't find an exact match for one of your
items in an 'alternative' supermarket we use the closest Equivalent we can find.
Before you decide to switch supermarkets, you can click 'Equivalents' and review the Equivalent items we got you. You
can decide to go with our automatically selected Equivalent or change to one of the other suggested options. If we can't find a
close match we will not place an Equivalent in your trolley but we might show you our closest matching alternatives.
For example, if you selected a 500g bag of Demerara sugar in Tesco and then switched to Sainsbury's: We would almost certainly find
a 500g bag of Demerara sugar in Sainsbury's and place it in your trolley.
If, however, Sainsbury's didn't sell the exact match or it was out of stock, you could choose between a 1Kg bag of Demerara sugar and
500g bag of Organic Demerara sugar.
What are Missing items?
Missing items occur when you chose to switch supermarkets, and one of the items in your trolley from your original choice of supermarket
, is not available, nor is an acceptable Equivalent available, in the supermarket you switched to.
The cost of missing items is deducted from your final trolley cost, after you decide to send your trolley to one of the online supermarkets.
Note: The trolley cost comparison in the 'Trolley Checker' page is before missing items are deducted. This will allow you a more
meaningful comparison of trolleys from different supermarkets.
Checkout - Sending your trolley order to your chosen supermarket
How do I complete my shopping with mySupermarket?
When you have finished shopping, click the 'Checkout' button.
In the 'Trolley Checker' page you will see a price comparison summary of your trolley in all supermarkets and an opportunity to look into
ways to save. Alternatively, you may just want to checkout from your usual supermarket.
Once you've looked at our saving suggestions in the Price Checker and Health Checker, click the 'Send' button to send your trolley to the supermarket
of your choice.
When you click 'Send' you will be guided through the following:
- Registering or signing in to mySupermarket, in case you haven't already done so.
- Providing your login details for the supermarket you want to check out from
- Note: if you choose to checkout from an online supermarket where you don't yet have an account, you can register at that supermarket
as part of the Checkout process.
After these simple steps you will be directed to the online supermarket you chose, where you will review your final order, All you have to
do is sign in, review your trolley and enter your payment details. If you haven't booked a delivery slot with mySupermarket you'll need to
book your delivery after you send your trolley.
What does the 'Send' button mean?
The 'Send' button means that with one click you instruct mySupermarket to update your trolley at your chosen online supermarket with
all the items that you shopped for in mySupermarket. That means that you can go to your online supermarket (e.g. Tesco.com)
and you don't need to shop for these items again. Usually sending the trolley takes a few seconds, but it can take up to
two minutes during peak shopping hours.
Why do I need to enter my online supermarket login details?
You need to enter your login details so that we can:
- Book a delivery slot before you start shopping,
- Import your favourites from any of the online supermarkets, and
- Send your trolley for checkout.
You can book a delivery slot from one of the online supermarkets through mySupermarket. We need your login details so that we can reserve the slot in
your account.
You can save time by shopping from your Favourites in mySupermarket. We need your login details so that we can import your favourites from any of the online
supermarkets.
In order to Checkout from one of the online supermarkets, we need your login details so that we can send your trolley directly to your account. All you need to
do is enter your payment details at the online supermarket.
For purposes of confidentiality, we give you the choice whether you wish for your password to be saved. If you wish to speed up the process on future shops, tick
the box asking to remember your password and you won't have to enter it next time. If you change your mind, you can untick the box later on. Your password is
required so that we can carry out the functions described above. See the Password Policy in our Privacy Policy section for more details.
What happens after I send my trolley to my chosen supermarket?
After you send your trolley to your chosen supermarket your order is almost complete. To complete the process you need to follow
these steps:
- Review your trolley at your chosen supermarket (as updated by mySupermarket).
- aIf you haven't booked a delivery slot through mySupermarket, you'll need to book your delivery after you send your trolley.
- Provide/confirm payment details.
Why is it that I sent my trolley but it appears empty when I go to pay and checkout?
When you send your trolley, first make sure that you are logged out of your supermarket account. If you are already logged
in, you will have to logout and login again in order to "refresh" your account.
Alternatively, check that you sent your trolley to the same account. If you have two accounts and login in to the wrong one
you'll find it's empty. In order to check your supermarket details, click on "Your account".
On rare occasions, temporary technical issues arise causing the 'Send' process to fail. This often occurs when one of
the supermarkets upgrades their site. We suggest that you return later on to complete your order. Your trolley will
be saved on mySupermarket until you successfully send it.
Why is there a small difference between the Total in mySupermarket and the total at the online supermarket?
Your mySupermarket Total takes into account special offers. However some of the online supermarkets do not include these discounts in their totals.
If you have booked your delivery slot through mySupermarket, your mySupermarket Total takes into account only the special offers which are valid on the date of
your delivery.
If you chose items sold by weight, such as fruit or fresh meat, we calculate the price based on an estimated weight for those items. But you pay the online
supermarket for the exact weight.
If you have switched supermarkets, and some of the items you chose could not be replaced, the cost of these items will be deducted from the trolley price.
How does my delivery slot affect my trolley total?
Your mySupermarket total takes into account only special offers which are valid on the date of your delivery. For example if a special offer expires on
12 August and your delivery date is 10 August, the special offer price will be included in your trolley. You can check the expiration date of a special offer
by opening the product details page (click on an item to open the product details page).
How can I add items to my trolley after sending it?
If you have already sent your trolley from mySupermarket to the supermarket of your choice, you can still add items to your
trolley at the supermarket's website.
Problems with Delivery?
Once you have sent your trolley order to the supermarket you chose, you have completed your shopping with mySupermarket. From then, you will deal directly
with the online supermarket. If you have any problems with your delivery, you should contact that supermarket directly.
If you are not sure you completed your purchase, see 'How do I complete my shopping with mySupermarket?'.
