  • Famous Grouse blended Scotch whisky is matured for a long time in seasoned oak casks and bottled in Scotland. Matthew Gloag and Son established this Famous Grouse whisky in Perth Scotland in 1896. Their secret to this incredibly smooth whisky is the way they match and blend the fine rare Scotch whiskies that they use. For this whisky they have matched and blended Macallan and Highland Park fine malt whiskies with grain whiskies. The blend has notes of oak, sherry and citrus combined with a fruity and mature medium dry finish.

The Famous Grouse is named after the Red Grouse, Scotland's national game bird. Originally, it was called ‘Grouse brand’ but it became so popular that in 1906, they decided to add ‘Famous’ to its title. By 1980 it was a brand leader in Scottish whisky and was awarded a Royal warrant. To this day, the Famous Grouse is still one of Scotland's favourite whiskies.

  • The Black Grouse Scotch whisky showcases a distinctly darker side to The Famous Grouse family. A deep and mellow drop with smoky overtones, The Black Grouse balances reassuring smoothness with aromatic, peaty flavours. This is partly due to the blend of peated malt whiskies as the Black Grouse is a carefully brokered marriage between The Famous Grouse and Islay malt whiskies. At first the taste is light and aromatic in its smokiness but then you get to the silky smooth note of the Famous Grouse, leaving you hints of cocoa and spice and a long smoky aromatic finish.

The Black Grouse Scotch Whisky is named after the Black Grouse who is a relative of the Red Grouse game bird. This bird is an endangered bird and buy buying this whisky you are helping maintain Black Grouse conservation work across Scotland, Northern England and Wales. So far 85,000 acres of native habitat have been improved and there are signs that the black grouse population is responding positively! Conservation takes time and commitment, so does making distinctively smooth, and smoky whisky. Enjoy The Black Grouse Scotch Whisky and help save its namesake.

  • The Famous Grouse company has been blending whisky for more than 100 years and that’s where the inspiration for this whisky came from. They have expertly used hard to find and pricy sun dried sherry oak casks to mature a blend of Famous Grouse whisky. As a result, the Naked Grouse whisky tastes sherry sweet, rich and smooth with hints of dried fruits, cinnamon and spice and a lingering finish of black cherries and dark chocolate.

The Naked Grouse is a blended scotch whisky is also well known for its interesting apothecary style bottle with cork top and its insistence on not declaring its age. Whisky drinkers have a perception that the quality increases with the age so The Famous Grouse are challenging this by not declaring the age of this blended whisky. They claim the blend is as high quality as old aged whisky and even single malt whiskies. It’s been nominated for the World Whiskies award 212 so it must be doing something right!

  • The Famous Snow Grouse smoothchill filtered blended grain Scotch whisky. The snow Grouse is best enjoyed cold, straight from the fridge or even the freezer! It tastes light and elegant and this is reflected in the packaging, which looks distinctly more like a spirit bottle than a whisky bottle. It has pleasant notes of vanilla and fruit which makes it light, smooth, sweet and easy to drink.

This chilled whisky is named after the Snow Grouse bird that can be found in the Highlands of Scotland so it’s quite fitting that the Whisky is chill filtered and tastes best when served severely chilled. It likes cold conditions just like its namesake!

  • Hand crafted in small batches, hand-dipped in red wax to finish - A truly hand made bourbon, crafted with precision and care The only whisky distillery to rotate barrels during ageing - Allowing the bourbon to develop a consistent taste Made with red winter wheat instead of rye, yielding a sweeter taste - Increasing its versatility, ideal for mixing Growing demand for Maker's Mark had led to careful allocation of stock - Opportunity for bars to stock a highly sought-after, hand-crafted bourbon with limited availability Appearance Rich and brilliant amber. Nose Full, yet delicate; well-rounded; possessing a distinctive caramel aroma of the charred oak with a hint of vanilla; pleasant and inviting. Palate Rich yet soft on the palate with a subtle sweetness. Light, spicy flavour with a hint of butterscotch and vanilla. Finish Smooth, short and warm. Created in 1953, the brainchild of Bill Samuels Snr, Maker's Mark used red winter wheat to produce a new, kinder, gentler tasting bourbon. Named Maker's Mark as a guarantee of its quality, each bottle is hand-dipped in the iconic red wax. History and Heritage Our president, Bill Samuels, Jr., comes from a long line of bourbon makers which started way back in 1780. About 1840, the Samuels family actually started to make a living from distilling and the recipe was passed down six generations and remained unchanged until it got to Bill's father. Bill Samuels, Sr., had his own idea of how a whisky should taste, so he abandoned the family recipe and set out to create his own. If he was going to make a bourbon and put his name on it, he wanted one he could be proud of. And that meant a bourbon that was more pleasing to the palate. So in 1853, he bought an abandoned Victorian distillery (now fully restored and a National Historic Landmark) in picturesque Happy Hollow, Kentucky, and set to work on making his dream a reality. He developed a new recipe based on locally grown grains. The most unique thing he die, however, was replace the traditional bourbon flavouring grain of fry with red winter wheat, which produced a much gentler taste. Once the recipe was settled on, Bill graciously turned to his wife to name the bourbon and design its bottle. In designing the bottle, she developed everything from its shape (square and round were just too easy) to the hand-lettered label and hand-dipped red wax seal. Folks often ask where she got the idea for our distinctive red wax. Well, being a collector of 18th century bottles of cognac, she noticed many of them were sealed in colorful wax. So she simply “borrowed” the idea. Mrs. Samuels also collected fine English pewter. She knew that accomplished silver and pewtersmiths put their personal mark only on their best work, and she thought a bourbon maker should do the same thing. That’s why we’re named Maker’s Mark and every bottle bears our mark: the SIV symbol. What does the SIV symbol stand for? It’s really quite easy. The “S” is for the Samuels family. The “IV” is the Roman numeral four, representing which generation of Samuels created Maker’s Mark. Production Maker’s Mark is one of the only bourbon distilleries that makes just one brand of bourbon. We’re pretty easygoing about things, but when it comes to our recipe, that’s one thing you’ll see us get passionate about. We use pure, iron-free limestone spring water exclusively. Not city, well or river water. Our source is a ten acre limestone spring-fed lake at the distillery. Rather than the traditional Rye, we use yellow corn and red winter wheat from specially selected small-farm cooperatives, all of which are located within the limestone geology near the distillery. This wheat gives our whisky its soft, mellow taste. Our dated rollermill is the key to preparing our grain for cooking. While some distillers think this method is too slow and produces a lower yield, it’s just fine for us. The slow process does not scorch the grain like a hammermill can. We are among the few remaining bourbon distillers that propagate their own yeast for fermentation with cultures that we can trace back to the pre-Prohibition era. We also use the traditional sour mash method, similar to making sourdough bread, where we always leave over some culture from one batch to start another. HANDMADE. 45% alc./vol. Maker's Mark is America's only handmade bourbon whisky never mass produced. Each individual batch is less than 19 barrels, and this small quantity means we can be choosy about everything we use and everything we do to craft our whisky. That's why we still use the old-style sour-mash method. We start the fermentation of each new batch by using a little of the last. The result is a far more consistent product. We're proud of our unique and full flavoured handmade bourbon, and so we add our maker's mark SIV to each bottle. Enjoy. Bill Samuels, Ju. PRESIDENT. Anytime you're in the neighborhood, stop by and visit us at our distillery, near Loretto, Kentucky. Built in 1889 and beautifully re-stored, the home of Maker's Mark is a designated Kentucky and National Historic Landmark. Fully Matured alcohol 45% by volume (Ninety Proof).
