Pharmacist William Owen originally made Lucozade Energy in 1927. He wanted to help his customers recover from common colds and other such illnesses so he started trying out drink recipes to help him achieve this. It was originally called Glucozade, after its primary ingredient of Glucose but it soon changed to be just Lucozade. In 1983 Lucozade set about rebranding themselves as more of a powerful energy drink, rather than a drink that had previously been associated with illness. This change of branding, together with new packaging, saw Lucozade sales rocket and solidified their place in the market as energy drink
