Pimm's No. 1 'The Original Mixer' was established in 1840 by James Pimm, the owner of the City of London Oyster Bar. He invented the gin based drink for his customers to aid their digestion but it soon became a popular liqueur and is now one of our favourite cocktail drinks! Pimms has become the ultimate British summertime spirit based cocktail. It’s such a classic drink that it's almost as popular as English tea! Best enjoyed with friends while watching the Cricket, Wimbledon, relaxing in the garden, or at the Horse races.
How do you make Pimms? The classic cocktail recipe is fairly simple. Get a jug or tall glass and add 1 part Pimms and 3 parts lemonade. Finely chop some cucumber, oranges and strawberries and add a few sprigs of mint. Chill, add some ice and serve! Or why not try and create your own fruity combination? You can also try adding lemon and apples to help bring out the fruity flavour.
This might be the best summer spirit drink but don’t forget about the classic Pimms Winter cocktail as well! Pimms Winter No. 3 Cup is based on Brandy instead of Gin. To make Winter Pimms, mix 1 part Pimms No.3 with 3 parts warm apple juice. Add some chopped apple, orange, cinnamon and caramel and let stew for a while. Serve in a teapot, glass or mug. A definite way to help keep you warm and cosy on those cold winter days and fend off the winter blues!
